It gives me immense pleasure to invite you all to the 33rd Annual Convention of Osmania Gandhi Kakatiya Medical & Telangana Medical Alumni Association of America on September 14-15th, 2017 at the Hilton SFO Bayfront, Burlingame, CA. Its been more than 10 years that we did not have a convention in California.
Our alumni members represent some of the finest minds in the world and, it is very humbling to serve this great organization as President. It would not have been possible without the constant help and guidance of our Executive Committee members and the Board of Trustees. I cannot say more about their dedication to our organization and needless to say that it is responsible for the resurgence of our organization in the recent years. Our mission is to provide a forum for scientific, educational, cultural, charitable and social interaction amongst our alumni, and we have strived to stay true to it all the time.
We are forever grateful to our respective medical colleges for shaping us into what we are now and, it is but a small token of appreciation to participate in giving back. This organization has been formed initially as Osmania University Medical Alumni Association when there were only 3 medical colleges under Osmania University and which catered to the current Telangana region. Later on, when NTR University of Health Sciences was formed, the alumni organization name was changed to Osmania Gandhi Kakatiya Medical Alumni. Since many private medical colleges has sprung since then, in 2012 it was decided to include alumni from all these medical colleges and provide them a platform similar to us.
OGKTMA has done many impactful programs since inception including developing libraries in medical colleges, building alumni centers etc. Taking the spirit of giving back further into the communities, we have embarked on an ambitious program of equipping the entire fleet of public ambulances in the state of Telangana with automatic defibrillators. We have raised $100,000 during the last years Dallas convention and worked further and raised another $50,000 from Rotary International. We are in the final stages of this project and targeting Mid July time frame for deploying these AED’s. We encourage you to participate in this event also.
OGKTMA has produced the maximum number of AAPI (American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) presidents so far in its history. Our alumni have been very active in AAPI activities right from the beginning and through this umbrella organization of multiple alumni chapters coming from Indian medical colleges, they have been doing yeoman service like organizing fund raising events locally in US for hurricane victims and leukemia and lymphoma society etc.
Myself and a big group of our organizing committee under the guidance of our advisory committee are pulling all strings to make this 33d convention a grand success. We will have a complete convention with CME, medical talks and wholesome entertainment. We would like this to be a wholesome family event and keeping our younger alumni in mind, we are putting up child care center during the gala time in the evening of 15th. This is a product of teamwork par excellence and kindly join me in thanking each one of them for their hard work and enormous efforts.
I request you to register if you have not done so far and participate in the event actively. Please let your friends and colleagues know about the Convention and encourage them to attend.
At your service,
Sujeeth R. Punnam, MD, FACC
Osmania Gandhi Kakatiya & Telangana Medical Alumni Association of America.
The ``Andhra Pradesh University of Health Sciences`` was established by the Act.No. 6 of the Andhra Pradesh legislature and was inaugurated on 9-4-1986. After the death of its founder Sri N.T. Rama Rao the University was named after him as NTR University of Health Sciences, Andhra Pradesh with effect from 2.2.98 vide Act No.4 of 1998. Ever since its formation, the new University has been issuing degrees to the graduates of all three alumni medical colleges (Osmania, Gandhi, Kakatiya).
After the name change to OGKTMA, since many new medical colleges were opened in the area served by Osmania University, during 2012 Annual meeting under the leadership of President Dr.Rajender Reddy Jinna, decision was taken to allow the alumni members from all those new colleges to be the members of OGKTMA. And also during 2013, considering all pros and cons the term of the Executive Committee and Board has been extended to two years instead of one year.

Reddy at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago, followed by a picnic at Dr. Raghuram Vollala's residence, where the idea of forming an alumni association originated.
Dr. Janardana R. Pingili organizes the first formal meeting of OUMA in Long Island, New York. Dr. Narayan Deshmukh was elected as the first Secretary, the only office bearer and served from 1981 to 1984.
